Ft. Jackson Commemorative Statue
Case Study

This is an example of a successful outcome under poor circumstances—something that is not uncommon in fundraising. We had no board, no permanent organization, limited time and a $100,000+ goal to build a commemorative statue for drill sergeants at Fort Jackson. But we did have the strong support of Columbia Mayor Bob Coble and a connection to the larger Columbia convention center project underway. These two elements became the cornerstone of our effort. When we secured a grant from the City of Columbia to go over the top on our $100,000 in contributions, we made the commemorative statue a reality.
